Etek Mounting Plate
The Etek is mounted to a 1/4" steel plate, which is welded directly to the swing arm in the space where the air filter used to occupy. When I first saw this bike I knew that's where the motor was going to go, but I didn't know how tight the fit would turn out to be. Because of the large size of the rear sprocket, the chain travel is quite large. This means the motor had to be as far inward as possible. It was either that, or cut off some of the swing arm to make room for the chain. Or a smaller rear sprocket. So the Etek is bolted to the steel plate with countersunk (5/16") screws. Fixing the motor to the swing arm means more room for batteries in the front, where again space is already limited by the smaller frame.
The mounting plate is actually welded to a hollow steel square tube, 1x1.5", with supporting braces holding it to the frame:
